Fifth post - 9/27 - 9/29
9/27 - At Sea - still in the 40's and mildly rough seas.
After breakfast, we went to a digital camera seminar, but it was geared toward fancy cameras with a big lens. Not for us.
We then went to the photo gallery for the first time and found all the pictures taken of us. We bought the one of us boarding the ship, and let the others go. They ware ok, but it is a long cruise and we don't want to buy these too soon.
We went to a sale that was being held in the dining room, but it was all JUNK.
Then we went to watch a watercolor painting game. We were too late to participate but it was fun to watch. Six women started a painting, and every 60 seconds they moved to the next painting and then every 60 seconds moved until they were back at their original spot. Very interesting to see how they all turned out.
Wrote in my journal for a while, had pizza for lunch (really good), went back to the cabin to try to transfer pictures from camera to cell phone. No Luck with that! Played trivia for a while - not a good score there either! Boo Hoo!
Dinner was meatloaf for me (DELISH!), and more fish for Dan. He has had so much fish I expect to see scales and gills any day.
The show was a guitarist who played classical and country music. I fell asleep!!!
9/28 - Kodiak, Alaska - temp 55* - 60*, then got colder.
Our last stop in Alaska. Took a shuttle into town. There was a long line to get off the ship and an even longer one to get on a shuttle. They used school buses for the shuttles - made me want to do an Evacuation Drill - just for old times sake. Ha ha
Town is very small, a little run down and not much to see. Walked around for a while then back to the ship. More long lines for shuttles and gangplank.
Ship sailed at 4:30 pm, but had to return to port to let a passenger off for a medical emergency. Captain also announced that there were storms ahead with rough seas and strong winds and rain. UGH!
Seas did get rough about 10:30 pm but were not as bad as we thought it would be.
Dinner was good - show was just OK.
NOTE; My left knee which had the gel shots before we left home, does get sore if we do a lot of walking on the ship or ashore. I use the walker or cane when that happens and it helps a lot. The walker also helps when the ship is rockin' and rollin'.
2nd NOTE: We have not been able to find free wi-fi or cell service ashore since 9/23rd. Kind of disappointed in that.
9/29 - At sea - very rough seas - 20-foot waves, but temps mild - about 55*
All outside decks are closed off, and winds have gusted up to 60 mph. However, no one has gotten seasick that we know of, and it is kind of an adventure staggering down the hallways!
We did Sudoku, Line dancing, Trivia and Elevator Roulette (very funny game try to guess which elevator will open next!) We sat for a couple of hours in the Atrium talking to a couple from Canada.
Dinner was Surf and Turf and the show was the comedian from Brooklyn with a whole new show. Very funny.
Rough waves rocked us to sleep!
Just want you to also know the captain and crew have been great keeping us updated. We have changed course to avoid the worst of the storms in the area, and expect the worse to be over by tomorrow. As mentioned - it is not as bad as we thought it would be.
More next week! Love to all XXOOXXO
