Sixth Post - 9/30 to 10/4/18
Hi again - -
Lots has happened in the past few days - so here goes!
I have come down with a terrible head cold. Sneezing, coughing, runny nose and sore throat. Went to Medical, only to be told what I already knew - they can't do anything for a cold. Take Nyquil, Robituson, or Tylenol and drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest. Ok, doing that and now, on the 4th day, I do feel better.
Now - day by day
9/30/18 - still rough seas but some sun - finally. Had breakfast and went to an interdenominational Sunday service led by a woman passenger. We sang "How Great Thou Art", and "Amazing Grace" and she then preached on the Importance of Faith. We did not say any prayers or sing a closing hymn, it just ended abruptly. Not inspiring at all.
We stopped at the shore excursion desk and booked 3 tours for Vietnam. Then went to the Explorer Lounge to watch the Giants lose to the Saints. The winners in our group were very gracious, only a few stuck their tongues out at us!!!! Actually, we met John and Suzie, and the boys watched the game while we girls went to the International Cafe and had coffee and pastry.
We then separated for lunch - Dan and I had burgers and hot dogs - and then the sea got very rough again.
I started to feel very congested and had only chicken broth for dinner and went to bed right after.
10/1/18 - seas calmer and some sun again.
We went to breakfast, then to Sudoku and still did not get to finish it, then went to Trivia. We sat near the woman, Shelia that we met in San Pedro and who takes this game very seriously. She was with a group of Canadians who were all very happy with the new Trade agreement with Canada because their dollar immediately became stronger and they were all talking about how much money they made. Good for them!
Dan and I got about 12 answers out of 20 and were happy with our result.
We then went to the laundry, which is about 20 miles from our cabin so I could iron my outfit for the night's formal reception with the captain. Unfortunately, I was so sick by then, I could not go with Dan, and he looked so nice in his tux too! He did order room service for me when he got back to the cabin so I could have more chicken soup!
Oct 2nd became Oct 3rd. We crossed the International Date Line during the night and gained a whole day plus 2 hours.
My temperature went to 100* during the night, and I had chills and was awake most of the night. I did get to watch 3 movies- One science fiction with Tom Cruise (weird movie), one called (I think) Feel Pretty, and one about Jackie Kennedy (sad).
This is when I went to the Medical Dept. and then to buy some Robituson to loosen my cough (it worked!).
We were able to both attend a huge buffet Brunch in the Dining room where we sat with our normal dinner companions, Danette and Lloyd, and a man named John, a retired Radiologist from California. He just completed the World Cruise 4 months ago and was so well traveled we could not stop listening to his stories. Between him and Danette and Lloyd, who also travel extensively each year, we felt like amateurs! But we are also sooo grateful to be here and a part of this amazing group.
After this fun time, I took the cough med and we both took naps.

At 4:00 PM, we were awakened by an announcement from the captain. Because of the terrible storms and rough seas, and the re-routing we had to do to avoid the worst of it, WE'RE NOT GOING TO STOP IN THE FIRST PORT IN JAPAN, KOSHIRO! This is the first cruise we have ever taken where we missed a port. The new routing is taking us south to Yokohama, the port for Tokyo.
Had dinner and then to bed. - More fluids and sleep.
Ocr 4th - first rainy then sunny and warm (70's)
We woke up to bright sun, and got ready for breakfast, Unfortunately neither of us looked at the clock until be were ready to leave the cabin. IT WAS 5:15 A.M. In this part of the world, the sun rises at 4:45 AM and sets at 4:40 pm. Many passengers also did the same thing. The Buffet was much fuller than we expected and many people said, they did not realize how early it was, but decided to go to breakfast anyway since they were already up.
I am still sneezing, coughing, etc. but can now add I have itchy eyes and no sense of taste at all. YUCK!
I do feel better and am well enough to update this blog. so all is not lost.
Until next time -- Love you XXOOXXXO
