Fifteenth Post - August 8th to August 11th
Back again - Today is the first of 5 sea days before we arrive in Los Angeles and then head home to Florida. How fast time passes when you're having such fun! (Corny, I know. But true!)
Nov 8th - Fifth of our seven sea days - VERY, VERY ROUGH SEAS with 40 mph winds
Well, the outside decks and pools are closed and the wind is so bad, it is kicking up white caps as far as the eye can see!
I went to the internet cafe to bring the blog up to date, but could not get onto e-mails or Facebook. The system was sooo sloooow, and the attendant said he thought it was because of the weather interfering with the satellite reception. In any event, I gave up.
Since I was not able to work on the computer, I went shopping - naturally., There was a sale in the dining room where I bought a seascape design blouse and a winter jacket from Alaska. What the heck, we will head north this winter, so now I am better prepared.
Had lunch, then back to cabin to pack some things. I don't know if it was the rocking and rolling, or the fact that I was reading my lists and getting up and down to find items to pack, or if I am just getting older and don't tolerate things as well as I used to, but FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, I GOT SEA SICK!
Pardon the graphics, but I vomited, took a Dramamine, and slept a while. When I woke up, Dan got me crackers and ginger ale from the buffet and he went to dinner at the buffet also - sat with new friends - Peggy and Pete. I slept all night!
Nov 9th - Sixth of our 7 days at sea - Cloudy, with rain off and on, still rough seas but not as bad as yesterday - 75*
I feel much better today, Had a dry bagel for breakfast and then went to cabin and back to sleep. I had 1/2 a ham sandwich for lunch and then went to a lecture on Kauai, which was very helpful in planning our day there later this week. I was surprised at how crowded this event was.
We sat in the Wheelhouse bar since it is always very cool in there and that helps with motion sickness. I did take a second Dramamine after lunch, just to be on the safe side. I will say, they seemed to help a LOT. We talked about going north for Christmas and about a short trip to Key West in February, and maybe a Transatlantic crossing in July to London and then the Chunnel to Paris before Cruising home. I think being on this trip has made us realize how much we LOVE to go places, see things and meet new people. Anyway, it was fun to start planning. Many, many of the people we have met have been on several World Cruises and many also are already booked on the next one in January of 2019! We are really amateurs compared to them - but no complaints. We are very grateful for what we have done and are able to still do. THANK GOD, my knees and hips have been fine on this trip - NO PAIN at all.
Slept a little before going to yet another delicious dinner - shrimp and bow tie pasta this time. The show tonight was another production of Motown music. These singers and dancers at Princess are so talented, they never wavered once with all the rocking and rolling the stage was doing, We were a little surprised they went on with the show, since the sea was so rough, but troopers they are!
P>S> The great "lettuce issue" is heating up. It is amazing at how many passengers are irate at the fact that the ship ran out of lettuce. You would think the only reason they came on this cruise was to eat LETTUCE! We are having fun laughing at the "Lettuce People"!!! :-)
Nov 10th - seventh and LAST day of our 7 days at sea 75* again and windy. But less rough than the past several days.
Got up at 7 a.m. so we could have breakfast before going to a Veteran's Day service on the ship. They are having it a day early because we will be in port in Honolulu tomorrow and many will be off the ship. I had a bagel again since it seemed to work yesterday at keeping me from being nauseous. Went to the theater early to get seats for the service and met our friend Ann from the Hong Kong adventure. What a nice lady she is. The service was well done, and everyone was happy to honor the many, many veterans on board this ship.
We stayed in the theater talking to Ann and wound up staying for a lecture on the CIA and spying. this has been an ongoing series of stories on the spy industry - sorry we missed the beginning as this one was very interesting.
Had a light dinner, prepared for our all day adventure in Honolulu tomorrow.
Nov 11th VETERAN'S DAY - Beautiful, sunny and warm day in Honolulu.
I was in red/white and blue but Dan was the star attraction. He wore tan slacks, white dress shirt, blue blazer and his AMERICAN FLAG TIE. We had early breakfast so we could begin our hop/on-hop/off trolley tour at 8 am. Glad we did as the second stop was at the Statue of a famous surfer, which was 4 blocks from St. Augustine By the Sea, RC Church - right across from Waikiki Beach. How fortunate we feel to be here! Mass was wonderful - a little different. Entire congregation stands for communion. Parishioners and priest were all very welcoming and friendly.
On the walk back to the trolley stop, we did a little shopping in an ABC Store, which is one of 58 ABC stores located in Waikiki! They are on every corner it seems.
Dozens of people in the area stopped to tell Dan, they loved his tie, thank him for his service and wish us both a Happy Veteran's Day - It was like a parade!! He even had his picture taken with two children from Australia because they liked his outfit so much!
After seeing all the sights in Waikiki, we switched trolley lines to go to the American Cemetery of the Pacific (The Punch Bowl) which is very moving and beautiful. We then switched trolleys again to go back to the ship so we could get the shuttle to Walmart Super Center! Hooray! I highly recommend this hop/on hop off service. It is so easy to do and has very helpful, informative driver/guides!
We did a little shopping - got candy, ginger ale, another piece of 28" luggage for all our purchases throughout the trip (I know, I know - I told you- it's a sickness!). and then the major purchase - I BOUGHT A NEW CELL PHONE TO REPLACE THE ONE I LOST IN HONG KONG! The clerk who helped us was not able to activate it for us, but his manager, Sydney, stepped in (after a little pleading from Dan) and did the entire activation transaction with Tracfone for us. It is now up and running and I am SO HAPPY!
Went back to ship, freshened up a little and went to "open seating" dinner. Our regular table was occupied by the people who use it during the early seating, so we sat at the table next to us which is usually 6 Japanese people. We were then joined by four people who are also usually seated in our area, but at a different table. They were Mikey (a woman), Whinnie, Cathy and Tom. An interesting group - Cathy & Tom are one of the couples who are booked on the World Cruise in January, Whinnie lives outside Chicago with Mikey and we spent a lot of time talking about the University of Chicago and what it was like in the 1960's. Fun dinner.
Back to cabin to get ready for tomorrow's tour in Kauai. What a long, jam packed day this was! Went to sleep tired, but very, very happy.
