Sixteenth Post - Nov 12 to 17th

Winding down on this trip - - -  Nov 12th -  Another beautiful day this time in Kauai, Hawaii Kauai is very beautiful - green and lush.  We had an early breakfast and an early tour.  We took a boat ride along the Wauila River to the Fern Grotto.  The trip was lovely, we had Hawaiian singers and hula dancers on board who entertained us along the way.  We passed canoes, water boarders and kayaks and all people on the water waved and said hello! We had wonderful people on the bus and the boat ride, and passed some of the most beautiful scenery we have seen on this trip.  I was a little concerned about a warning about slippery rocks at the Grotto, but there were none.  Walkway was clear and dry and shaded by huge trees (bamboo) of all shapes and sizes. The ride back to the dock was filled with interesting information about the area.  The bus ride to the Waterfalls was very short, and the falls themselves were beautiful.  We were told...

Fifteenth Post - August 8th to August 11th

Back again - Today is the first of 5 sea days before we arrive in Los Angeles and then head home to Florida.  How fast time passes when you're having such fun!  (Corny, I know.  But true!) Nov 8th - Fifth of our seven sea days - VERY, VERY ROUGH SEAS with 40 mph winds      Well, the outside decks and pools are closed and the wind is so bad, it is kicking up white caps as far as the eye can see!      I went to the internet cafe to bring  the blog up to date, but could not get onto e-mails or Facebook.  The system was sooo sloooow, and the attendant said he thought it was because of the weather interfering with the satellite reception.  In any event, I gave up.      Since I was not able to work on the computer, I went shopping - naturally.,  There was a sale in the dining room where I bought a seascape design blouse and a winter jacket from Alaska.  What the heck, we will head north this winter, s...

Fourteenth Post - Nov 5 to Nov 7B

Getting very close to today's date! November 5th - At Sea - Again, warm and humid but pretty calm seas       Our first of 7 days at sea before we get to Hawaii.  Went to breakfast a little late, and ate too much.  As a result, I felt a little queasy and lightheaded, so we went back to the cabin.  Dan went to do the laundry while I relaxed in the cabin.  I watched, "Daddy Long Legs"  with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron.  Love this movie - sang along with all the great songs and wished I could dance like that.   Watched part of another movie - stupid shark move - have no idea of the name or who was in it, but it did put me to sleep.  Dan was gone almost 4 hours - laundry room very crowded, but finally it was all done.        We had pizza in the cabin and did a little paper work - organized all the information we have been collecting during the cruise.  Then we did a little shopping in the gift shop...

Thirteenth Post - Nov 1st to Nov 4th

Lots of catching up to do, so here goes! November 1st, -  At Sea - This one is HOT, windy and Humid      We spent the morning, after breakfast, wandering the ship.  I did attend a lecture on "How to Write a Memoir".  Did get some very helpful ideas.  For example:  Most people who write personal family histories, use laundry lists - my mother was born on----, I was born on---, etc.  Using some of our 5 senses makes it more interesting - it's all in the details:  My mother was born on a clear, hot July morning in 1898.  There was a clean, fresh smell in the air after an overnight rainstorm - etc. etc.  I found it very interesting.       The rest of the day was a usual Day at Sea:  Nap after lunch, basketball, delicious dinner with a show afterward.  Dan went to this one alone - it was a Guitar playing Comedian  - by all accounts - Awful! November 2nd, Hot and Humid again, Very Rough Seas ...

Eighth Post 10/9 to 10/11

October 9th - Tuesday, Yokohama - HOT  85* - 90# Finally, I can say - "Hello Again". We have had 27 days of fun and adventures, and no time to get to post them.  The plan was to use the ship's Internet connection only when necessary and to use port Wi-Fi all other times.  As most plans, do, this one had flaws.  Many ports did not have wi-fi with Internet connections, or many times we were not at the port long enough to connect and use it,  So I have a lot of catching up to do. This is our last of 3 days in Yokohama with sailing set for 6 PM.  We have the option of going ashore on our own, taking a short tour or staying on the ship.  We tried to get on a tour to Tokyo, but it was already sold out, so we opted for a short walk on the pier, which turned out to be a loooong walk in terrible heat!  We did take our pictures of feet standing on Japan.   Went to Internet Cafe but the satellite was down.  While we waited, we talked t...

Twelfth Post - 10/27 to 10/31

Finally, Another Post! October 27th - At Sea - Still HOT, partly cloudy       I am having a very hard time with internet access on this cruise.  The speed to connect to Comcast, or this blog, or Facebook is VERY VERY slow. or times out completely.  I guess with 2000 passengers and another 1000 crew members all trying to get on, slows things down considerably.  That is my whine for the day.      The captain made an announcement this morning that we may have to skip the port of Manila, Philippines because of a typhoon in the area.  Yikes - this will be the third port we missed because of the weather.        Went for ice cream and sat to watch the World Series game while we ate.  They had it broadcast live on the giant screen over the pool.  It was way too hot for me to sit there, so I went into a lounge to update my journal.  One and half hours later, still no Dan.  When I left him, the...

Eleventh Post - 10/23 to 10/26

Slowly but surely catching up to today's date (11/3) October 23rd , - HONG KONG - cloudy and warm  Started the day with breakfast, and meeting our tour group early.  I asked if I could use my walker on the "Hop on Hop off" tour and was told they weren't sure, but probably not since they stop only long enough for people to hop off and others to hop on.  So, I took my cane instead.  No problem, except in one long line where I really would have loved to have the seat in the walker.  Oh well - not too bad. The next thing I discovered was that the battery in my camera was dead.  I try so hard to remember to charge it every other day but must have messed up on this one.  I'll have to use my cell phone for pictures. The first bus route we took was the Red Route, which wandered all though Hon Kong Island.  We passed government buildings, Financial Center, Famous Hotels (The Peninsula), Hi-end shopping district, Former Red Light District (now bars ...
